Elton John 原名Riginald Kenneth Dwight，1947年3月25日出生于伦敦近郊，从4岁起便开始学习钢琴，在进入伦敦音乐学院就读前，他一直如同任何一个普通的英国男孩一样过着家庭和学校生活。Elton John在音乐方面获得的第一个奖项是1958年他在皇家音乐学院比赛中获业余学士奖，不过到60年代早期，他告别了古典音乐而走向摇滚。1964年他作为一名周末酒吧钢琴手开始了自己的流行音乐生涯。
